Activities for a sustainable sound environment

Our NGO has been founded in 2014. We have been functioning as a nonprofit since our establishment. In 2019 is a Public Benefit Organization (PBO). This means that Polish citizens can donate 1.5% of their personal income tax to our statutory activities.

Our mission is to shape

a harmonious acoustic space for a better quality of life. Through innovative research, public education, civic intervention, and the promotion of new research, we strive to create a world where silence and sound coexist in balance.

We are a catalyst for change

combining science, technology and community engagement to build acoustic awareness and inspire action for a healthier sound environment, particularly against noise. Our goal is to ensure that everyone can enjoy the right to silence and acoustic comfort, while appreciating the richness of the sounds of the world around us.

Common good

As a social organization, we engage in a wide range of activities for the common good. We carry out educational projects promoting human rights, multiculturalism, conduct anti-violence activities and support communities affected by humanitarian crises. Our commitment goes beyond acoustic issues to include comprehensive efforts to build a just and sustainable society.

The Institute's main goal is to raise public awareness and education about the noise problem and the need for silence.

Providing support and citizen intervention in difficult noise pollution cases

Activities introducing innovations and new technologies in the control of noise

Acoustic archiving of natural sites and development of sound tourism and recreation

Cooperation with local governments and development of international cooperation

Lobbying for change and legislative action to tighten noise-related standards in Poland

Main activities conducted by the Institute of Acoustic Ecology

"A lot of noise about noise" campaign

A campaign to raise awareness and knowledge related to the harmfulness of noise - both in terms of health and social aspects. In addition, the campaign presents good solutions used in other countries, presents the legal basis for the fight for the right to silence and rest, and assists in the interpretation of regulations.

Civic interventions

We undertake free counseling and legal activities to support local communities against noise pollution. It is important that decision-makers and institutions responsible for protecting the environment and public health take effective action to reduce noise. Some of the interventions are public, and we publish their results on our website.

The seminar “Contexts of Noise”

This is a research and education initiative aimed at raising public awareness of acoustic ecology and the impact of noise on daily life and human health, as well as on nature. The research and education seminar is implemented in partnership with the Institute of Musicology at the University of Wroclaw.

Report "Noise in the City" (planned)

A project to strengthen our noise watchdog activities. There will be 100 professional and certified measurements of the most sensitive places in Warsaw based on the Strategic Noise Map. The measurements and findings will culminate in a report with recommendations for noise management in the city.
